Nursing Students & Inactive Nurses
May apply to request a waiver to opt out of the 16-hour theory portion of a medication aide training program:
- Application for individuals who will be administering medications in a skilled nursing facility (SNF), assisted living center (ALC), or hospital: Application
- Application for individuals who will be administering medications in all other settings: Application
All applicants must complete:
- A four-hour clinical/lab portion of a medication aide training program;
- A competency evaluation using the Clinical Skills Checklist or an employer checklist; and
- A final exam.
Upon approval of a waiver, applicants employed in a SNF, ALC, or hospital must pass the Board's final exam and be registered by the Board as a medication aide: Initial Registration
The waiver of the 16-hour theory portion only applies to nursing students and inactive nurses.
